We all have our own understanding of what mental health is; and no it’s not just about personality and mood disorders. The World Health Organization (WHO) discribes it as
a State of well being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stress of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.
In my personal opinion, it’s one of the most important aspects of your total health state. Because it single handedly affects how we think, act, feel and behave.
What is most commonly seen as the mere absence of anxiety and stress, is determined by multiple factors that interact with each other so there’s no way to say that only one input can cause a distress in ones mental health.
Above is a modified mental health model. These are things you need to look at and assess often for yourself. See it as a kind of introspection on yourself if you want.
For example if I look at social interactions. I need to make sure I meet people and interact socially because not only is it important for human development, it serves as way to prevent loneliness and feeling excluded.
And like that you do introspection on some of the model topics you feel is relevant to you.
There’s also easy ways to maintain positive mental health you can try daily
- Connecting with other people
- Getting enough sleep
- Physical activity
- Talking to someone
- Picking up a hobby
