Checking on your health is just as important as maintaining good health. And I myself will be first to admit that I seldom if not ever check on my health numbers.
Until recently I had to go to a doctor for a heat-rash-turned-bad and he suggested we do a full health screening. Taking bloods, full physical the works.
But I soon realized it is for my own health that I need to know my numbers and to know my health risks (if there is any).
I decided to let you in on what the basic screenings is for you to look at should you decide to go for a health screening.
Blood sugar test or clinically abbreviated as hgt, it’s a finger prick test that measure the amount of glucose/sugar in your blood. It goes without saying that all tests and measures taken should fall in a specific range to be normal.
Ideally you would want your fasting sugar to be between 4 and 6 mmol/l.
Blood pressure is the measuring of how the heart is working. It has a two-number reading where one is over the other I.e 120/80 mmHg. The top one (120) measures the amount of pressure in your arteries when the heart is contracting; the second one (80) measures the heart rate’s resting beats in-between.
Your blood pressure should be checked as often as you can to make sure you keep it in check.
Waist circumference measurement
Our bodies can tell us alot if not everything if we know where to or what to look at. That is exactly where the waist measurement comes in.
And trust me it’s just as good a indicator of health than any other fancy machine or equipment.
A bigger waist increases your risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes. As soon as you see any changes in your waist line, you should check on it immediately.
Tests like total cholesterol, thyroid function, liver and immune system tests is done only by taking bloods. And you do need a doctor consult to have bloods taken.
But the tests mentioned above is done daily at your local government clinic.
So next time your work has a wellness day, your local clinic has an outreach at a nearby venue or a retailer offers to do health screenings, do check up on your numbers it can only benefit you. And it’s free.
